Losing a car key is always a very unpleasant event in the owner’s life, especially if the key was the only one. It is therefore worth making sure that you have a spare unlocking device beforehand. It is preferable to have a duplicate of a modern folding key made by a specialist workshop, as this ensures a long and uninterrupted operation of the device.

Unique encryption – protection against dropping

The production of the mechanical part of the duplicate key is a simple task. However, it is not enough to simply produce the blade of the key in order to restore it. The new generation of Peugeot cars is equipped with an unlocking device with a built-in chip. A special code is entered at the factory, without which it is impossible to start the car. It will be possible to insert the key into the lock hole in the door handle and open it, but the engine will not start. The car will not work if the individual code of the key is not recognised by the built-in transceiver. The vehicle will only function when the information in its control unit is fully compatible with the data contained in the key chip. In addition, the code is individual for each specific vehicle and is never repeated. It can only be read by a technician using a special diagnostic device.

It is the encryption of the key that is the most difficult: if you try to select the code on your own, the car will consider it an attempt to drive off and will block the control systems. In addition, copying the key requires the entry of the data necessary for remote access to the vehicle’s boot, windows and sunroof/panoramic roof. If the alignment has been incorrect, these systems will not respond to duplicate commands.

It is possible to make a replica of a modern car key even if all the original sets have been lost. Recovery will be carried out “under lock and key” and will cost the car owner considerably more than a simple duplicate. In any case, a specialist workshop will have to be contacted.
