The design and principle of operation of Ford car locks are not the same as on other brands. However, despite the fact that these mechanisms are very innovative, they are considered to be rather lame. They are afraid of dirt, and both the lock and the key wear and fray relatively quickly. Therefore, if the key has begun to turn less easily or to jam slightly, it is necessary to carry out preventive maintenance. Preventive work includes: defecting the mechanism, making new key blades or replacing worn disks.

What is the complexity of making a duplicate key?

The unique profile of the rear part of the key, which is popularly known as the rhombus or the 'crown', is quite difficult to duplicate. The situation becomes particularly difficult when the edges of the key are worn away. A suitable duplicate can only be made in this case from the lock. It is not possible to produce a Ford key blade to a high quality using normal machine tools - special equipment is required. If such equipment is available, the customer will receive a duplicate key within an hour. However, to produce a complete key, the mechanical part is not enough and programming is required. It usually takes a specialist 2-3 hours to complete all the procedures.

It is possible to produce a Ford key:

without the container and electronics;

based on the immobiliser and door handle unit;

if the key blade is broken or badly abraded (the electronic part (chip or circuit board) is attached to the key after the new key blank has been made), depending on the front end chosen and the design of the key;

with a chip (and remote control if necessary) that starts the engine and opens the door.

The programming operation is essential for the production of new Ford keys, as it ensures that the car can respond to the signal sent. For this purpose, all data is recorded in the immobiliser via the diagnostic connector or by any other available means. For example, to synchronise the key and the control system, the key data must be scanned.
